AFTER CARE CENTRE IN POWERTOWN, LITTLE BRAK RIVER
We opened an After Care Centre in Powertown, Little Brak River, a rural development area in Mosselbay. We currently have 14 primary school and 8 High school children. Our activities include a healthy home cooked meal, assist with their homework and after study activities. Children with learning problems gets special attention. With the help of a farmer, we started vegetable gardens at 2 houses and showed the kids how to plant and grow the vegetables and to enjoy it. By this we hope to encourage them to work hard to achieve good results. They have art and craft lessons on Fridays
Our Projects
The children will also have outings again once a term, on Easter, Youth day, Heritage day and then their Christmas party.
As long as we receive support from all our wonderful supporters, we will be able to give these kids a better life.
We are planning to start a job creation program. Youths who dropped out of school will be taught skills like woodwork, sewing, building, jewelry making, etc. The initiative's goal is to provide the Children with warm nutritious food and fruit 3 times a day, clean clothing, a warm bed, security, safety, a proper education and a loving home free from physical and emotional abuse, where these kids can exercise, socialize and develop skills that will be useful throughout their lives. We are dedicated to the process of making that happen, but we need your help.
Food - this is our most important mission - to feed these kids, who depend on the food they get at school, every day breakfast and lunch. Most of these children does not get the nutrition they need to grow healthy and strong at their homes, and they attend school because they know they will receive a hot plate of well prepared food every day. We give them Oats and Maltabela for breakfast, as it is filling until its time for lunch. I make up a menu weekly, and the kitchen staff prepare the meals according to my recipes. Healthy, good food. We try to buy fresh fruit at least once a week.
